The route

Two atolls, chosen for what lives beneath them.

One island for the reef, one for the open water. Two stays are enough. More only means more transfers.

01 Malé · 1 night, if needed

Land, and wait for the light.

Seaplanes fly by day. Land after the last one and the first night is near the airport, quiet and short.

Land early and you fly straight on. We meet you at arrivals either way.

The airport is on its own island, beside Malé.

02 Baa Atoll · 5 nights

A reef held in trust.

A UNESCO biosphere reserve north of Malé. A villa over the lagoon, a house reef, long empty afternoons.

From June to November, manta rays gather in Hanifaru Bay to feed. Snorkelling only, no diving.

From Malé, about forty minutes by seaplane.

03 South Ari Atoll · 4 nights

Sharks, large and small.

A beach villa in the south of Ari, beside a marine protected area where whale sharks are seen all year.

Sightings are likely, never promised. We go with a marine biologist and keep our distance.

From Baa by seaplane, usually by way of Malé. To the airport, about thirty minutes.

A day on the route

A morning with whale sharks.

A day on the second island, to show its pace.

Illustrative. Your days are designed around you.
  1. 06:30

    A sunrise swim

The lagoon is glass at this hour. Nobody else is up.

  2. 07:30

    Breakfast on the deck

Mas huni, fresh coconut, eggs any way you like them.

  3. 09:00

    Out with the biologist

A short boat ride to the edge of the protected area, with a briefing on the way.

  4. 10:00

    Whale sharks

If they are there, you slip in beside them and keep your distance. If not, the reef is still worth it.

  5. 13:00

    Lunch on a sandbank

A table, an umbrella, and nothing else in sight.

  6. 16:00

    The afternoon off

Sleep, read, the spa or the house reef. Or none of them.

  7. 18:00

    Sunset by dhoni

A traditional wooden boat at the turn of the light. Sometimes dolphins come alongside.

  8. 20:00

    Dinner on the sand

Your table by the water, lanterns, the tide coming in.

Who is travelling

The same route, shaped around who is coming.

Here is what usually changes.

As a couple

Slower, quieter, more time alone.

  • A villa over the water, with steps down into the lagoon.
  • Breakfast brought to the deck, at whatever hour you wake.
  • A sandbank, just the two of you, collected at sunset.
  • Treatments for two, set for the hottest part of the day.

With friends

Room to be together, and room to split up.

  • Neighbouring villas, or a residence with a room for everyone.
  • A private dhoni for a day of snorkelling or diving.
  • Dinner at one long table on the beach, cooked for the group.
  • Separate days for the divers and for everyone else.

With family

Shallow water, gentle reefs, and time for everyone.

  • Beach villas rather than water villas with young children.
  • An island chosen for its calm, shallow lagoon.
  • Snorkel lessons in the lagoon before the house reef.
  • A morning at the kids’ club if they want it, and quiet afternoons.

On your own

Your own pace, and company when you want it.

  • An island chosen for its calm, where a table for one never feels like an afterthought.
  • A guided snorkel on the house reef, with the resident marine biologist where there is one.
  • A dive buddy arranged for you, if you dive.
  • Days left open, to read, swim or do nothing at all.
What we look after

Seaplanes, tides and every transfer, looked after.

01

Stays

Four and five star island resorts and boutique stays, each one we would choose ourselves.

02

Seaplanes

Seats booked and timed to your flights, with the daylight rule in mind.

03

Under the water

Guides and biologists who know the reef, and the rules that protect the animals.

04

Timing

Snorkel trips set by the tide and the current, not by the resort timetable.

05

Someone to call

A named contact in the Maldives and one at Truvela, throughout your journey.

06

Changes

If the sea turns or your mood does, we change the day with you.

Built once, around you.
